WORK ENVIRONMENT:-

A retail merchandiser will ensure that the good were available at the right price and at the right time in the stores. At the same time the buyer selects the product line to be sold, it will be your job to increase the profits by deciding how much stock should be purchased and how much money should be used up on stock.

Your work will include:

  • setting up stock levels and ensuring that superior selling products are assessable
  • monitoring the best sell line
  • examining the fashion and sales figures
  • scheduling financial plan and presenting sales forecasts to managers

  • working together with the retail buyer to plan the variety of products to be sold
  • meeting the suppliers with the buying team and probably settling on lesser prices
  • advertising or decreasing the prices of slower selling lines
  • giving visits to the stores and suppliers to negotiate on product selling
  • predicting profits and future sales
  • locating sales targets and prices

In most of the cases you will specialize in specific type of products like, food, fashion or home wares. In a huge retail chain you might be known as a product manager or handle only one or two product line, even as in smaller companies you might be liable for both i.e. merchandising and buying.

QUALIFICATION, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:-

Most of the employer will expect that you should have a BTEC HND to become a retail merchandiser in a business or maths related subjects like:

  • mathematics and statistics
  • retail management
  • fashion merchandising or buying
  • marketing
  • retail management
  • economics

You shall check with the universities and colleges for accurate entry requirements.

Some of the employers might think about you with other degree subjects or with level A or related qualifications, only if you have superior business or logical skills.

You should have little experience of working in the retail.

Your initial job in the field of merchandising will basically be as a distributor, allocator or merchandising administrator. You will then work as a merchandiser or assistant merchandiser as your experience increases.

WORKING CONDITIONS:-
