WORK ENVIRONMENT:-

Tourist guides give you an idea about the places of interest like momentous, towns and cities, gardens, buildings, museums, religious sites and art galleries.

Being a guide you can:

  • go together with the group on day tours to interesting places or sites
  • do the job in one place like historic or fortress house

You will accompany group around the area or site, and provide details concerning purpose, history, architecture and other interesting points.

QUALIFICATION, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:-

You will not require any set qualification to begin training as a tourist guide, but you should have a good standard of education.

It will be a benefit if you have experience in profession that involves handling with the public and providing presentations. It can be helpful if you are speaking a foreign language smoothly, but this is not basically necessary.

You can take the course and give examinations which are recognized by the Institute of Tourist Guiding. Based on the guiding type you want to do, you can work for qualifications like:

  • Level 2: Fixed Route Commentary, Interpretation & Presentation- for salaried or intentional work, showing guests round attractions like cathedrals, galleries, or on set routes tours like open bus trips and river trips
  • Level 3: Flexible Route Commentary, Heritage Interpretation & Presentation- for work as a conduct in the areas like city and town centers or in guests desirability, momentous building or legacy sites
  • Level 4: Blue Badge in Tourist Guiding- for every features of guiding

WORKING CONDITIONS:-

Your hours will differ according to the job. Cyclic work is common, and you may also work part-time. Yu can also work for 40 hours in a week as per the tourist season.
