WORK ENVIRONMENT:-

Patient Transport Service i.e. PTS controller arrange transportation to get patients to and from hospital admission, outpatient clinics, and other non-emergency appointments. They are the components of the non emergency ambulance team, and in several ambulance services they might have slightly different job designations.

Being a PTS controller, your tasks will be:

  • coping with demand for transportation
  • taking the information of the patients and ensuring that they are recorded correctly

  • deciding on the greatest use of vehicles and drivers
  • booking transport slots for the same day, the next day and up to 8 weeks in advance

When making a decision on the most suitable form of transportation, you will get the particular requirements of the patients and the level of support needed on their journey. You will consider the ability to patients to walk.

QUALIFICATION, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:-

Every ambulance service can place its own entry requirements. However, you will require compute skills, keyboard and good secondary education (probably including GCSEs in Mathematics, English and Science). Several employers will also give preference if you have:

  • through knowledge of local geography
  • good typing skills
  • ability to read map
  • awareness of medical technology
  • practice of administration work, office filing system and customer service

If you are able to speak second language it can be useful.

TRAINING DETAILS:-

You will get the domestic training from your employer, which might be based in the classroom or on the job. Training can differ between ambulance service and can generally include:

  • functioning a switchboard
  • maintaining correct records
  • making use of radio communication and other equipment

WORKING CONDITIONS:-

You will generally work for 37 to 38 hours weekly, which will also include shift covering times, bank holiday and weekends. Proletarian hours might also be presented. In the office you will work at the switchboard.

You will get many jobs in the NHS, even though you can also teach and do job in the armed forces.
