WORK ENVIRONMENT:-

As an electronics engineering technician you will plan, construct and repair the electronic components which are initiated in:

  • data communication- ATM machines, PDAs and computer
  • medical scientific instruments- laboratory and scientific apparatus
  • programmable control system- industrial and manufacturing machines
  • telecommunication- television, radio and mobile phones

Your work will comprise of:

  • build up and research on new ideas and products
  • check archetype products and examine the results
  • drawing printed circuit boards and wiring diagrams by making use of Computer Aided Design (CAD)
  • install and build electronic control system making use of Computer Aided Manufacturing
  • calibrate and examine the instruments for the purpose of quality control
  • fix and find the faults in machinery
  • install maintenance schedules for commercial and industrial equipment

You will work in partnership with the team of craft speople and engineers who are from different engineering field.

QUALIFICATION, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:-

Apprenticeship will help you to become electronics engineering technician in telecom, IT, engineering and electronics. For getting into the scheme you will need General Certificate of Secondary Education i.e. GCSEs. You need to have excellent color vision.

The range of Apprenticeship available in your area will depend on the skills and abilities required by the employers and local job market.

On the other hand, you can complete the course from college, which help educate you about some skills required. An applicable college course contains BTEC National Certificates and Diplomas in:

  • Electronics Engineering
  • Operation and Maintenance Engineering
  • Manufacturing Engineering

You can take Level 2 City and Guilds Electrical and Electronics Servicing (6958).

TRAINING DETAILS:-

Once you have started working, you can take various National Vocational Qualifications' as per your job profile which includes:

  • Level 3 Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • Level 2 and 3 Electrical and Electronic Servicing
  • Process Engineering Maintenance (Level 2 and 3)
  • Level 2 Engineering Maintenance and Installation
  • Carrying out Engineering Operations (Level 1 and 2)

If you are having Level 3 NVQ you can improve your profession projection by registering as an engineering technician. Check the Engineering Council website for further information.

It will be possible for you to work as an Electronics Engineer, by studying part-time for BTEC HNC/ BTECH HND in Electronic Engineering. Electronics degree courses are available widely, giving the option to combine study in a related area like control systems, telecommunications, controls systems and medical instruments.

SALARY AND OTHER BENEFITS:-

  • New candidates can be paid between £ 15,000 and £ 18,000 a year.
  • If you are having experience, this can increase to between £ 20,000 and £ 24,000.
  • Superior technicians can be paid up to £ 32,000 a year.
WORKING CONDITIONS:-

You will be required to work for 40 hours in a week. You might work on shift system, with on hand duties and overtime.

You can be based in the workshop, factory or research facility.
