Meteorologist Cover Letter

A meteorologist cover letter should necessarily project the candidate's understandings in various sectors of meteorology such as aviation meteorology, agricultural meteorology, nuclear meteorology, weather forecasting and hydro meteorology. You must showcase your knowledge in meteorological principles like boundary layer meteorology and dynamic meteorology depending upon the nature of the job. While including your technical skills, be sure to highlight them with respect to their spatial scope of interest as in the microscale, mesoscale, global scale or the synoptic scale of meteorology.

Only enlist those skills that are in accordance with the functions of the professional institution you are writing to, as in government agencies, research institutions, industrial organizations, radio and news stations and education. You may also mention your familiarity with the latest technology and observation systems used in meteorology such as SST buoys, weather balloons, dropsondes, radiosondes, NEXRAD, RAWS, ASOS, etc which will only serve as an added advantage for your application.

Sub: Job application for the position of Meteorological Scientist

Dear Mr. Leonard,

With respect to the job vacancy posted on your website, I hereby present my application for the position of Meteorological Scientist in the Atmospheric Research department within your organization.

I am a graduate in physical chemistry studied in the University of Florida and have completed my PhD in atmospheric sciences from the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research in July 2011. In the meantime, I had been working for National Weather Service, WA between June 2008 and January 2011 after which I took a break in order to study for my PhD examination.

During my employment, I was involved in analyzing the snapshots of various weather conditions at different places, examine the effects of atmospheric changes in the environment, weather forecasting and determine the amount of radioactive aerosols in the atmosphere. I have been engaged in studying the data generated or received from remote sensing equipment thereby producing weather information that is used for weather forecasting and as a future reference for scientists.

I am confident that I am a desirable candidate for the job title for I have adequate exposure to the technical aspects of meteorology as well as the researching part of it. Upon joining your organization, I promise to utilize my technical and researching skills for the benefit of the nation as well as effective functioning of your organization.
