They are responsible for managing the ship's routing, crew, shipment and communication. They also care for passenger on the ships and participate in the on-board communal events. WORKING CONDITIONS:- Merchant Navy vessels operate around the clock and you will work in shifts, called as 'watches' that differ as per your ship size. On a huge vessel, you will have to work for four hours on responsibilities followed by eight hours off. Your time at the sea can differ from various days or weeks to several months. Periods of leaves between voyages will also differ. You will be working on the deck and on the bridge in every weather conditions. You will have to work in the combat zones if you are working with the Royal Fleet Auxiliary.
