WORK ENVIRONMENT:-

An electrician maintains and fits the broad variety of electronic and electrical system and accessories in the motor vehicles.

The most important responsibilities of the auto electrician can comprise of:

QUALIFICATION, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:-

You can enter into this career in the course of an Apprenticeship scheme. To board a scheme you will basically require 4 GCSEs (General Certificate of Secondary Education) i.e. grade A-C. The apprenticeship range will depend on the local job markets and kinds of skills the employer would require from the workers.

If you are not qualified for an apprenticeship you can remain present at the college course before looking for the job. Applicable courses includes:-

  • Level 2 and 3 IVQ Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (Auto-electrical) (4101-76)
  • Diploma in Vehicle Repair and Technology (Auto Electrical)/ BTEC National Certificate

TRAINING DETAILS:-

You will generally get on-the-job training if you start on with your work. You can work with many NVQ which includes level 1, 2 and 3 of Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Auto electrical.

Producers also run their own training scheme which can show the way to technician status.

After acquiring the experience you can obtain the 4th Certificate in Advanced Automotive Diagnostic Techniques (4121).

You can develop your career prospects by combining the Automotive Technician Accreditation program (ATA). This is voluntary program with 3 levels:-

  • Diagnostic Technician
  • Service Maintenance Technician
  • Master Technician

At every level you can take a progression in on line as well as practical examination.

To meet up with the European Union Legislation, all recently trained MAC i.e. Mobile Air Conditioning Systems technicians must have achieved MAC "in-house" or a qualification certified by DEFRA. A qualification will be necessary after 4/07/2010. The following qualifications are permitted by Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).

  • Mobile Air Conditioning Systems Certification (Level 3)
  • Diploma in Automotive Air Conditioning and Climate System

SKILLS and KNOWLEDGE:-

SALARY AND OTHER BENEFITS:-

  • Apprentice can be paid up to $ 13,000 every year, as per age and phase of training.
  • New trained staff can be paid between $ 15,500 and $ 18,000.
  • Qualified auto electrician can be paid between $ 18,500 and $ 22,000.
  • Superior auto electricians can be paid up to $ 25,000 every year.

WORKING CONDITIONS:-

You will basically work for 36to 40 hours in a week. If the company works for 24 hours you may have to work in shifts or on-call system.

You can be based in a workshop or garage but if your job comprises yell out duties, you have to work outside in all climate conditions.

DIFFERENT OPPORTUNITIES:-

You can work for dealership, garages, fleet hire companies, road haulage firms, breakdown companies and specialist auto electrical fitters.

If you have good experience you can advance to management or supervisory role. You can also begin with your own business.
