SUMMARY
Manufacturing engineer with extensive experience in a development and new product introduction environment. Areas of expertise include design for Manufacturability (DFM) of high-density surface mount printed circuit/wiring boards (PWB) and managing contract PWB fabrication.
TECHNOLOGY
  • Type 1 (SMT both sides), type II (SMT both sides and PTH) and type III (SMT single side and PTH) PWB assemblies.
  • High-density, large (22" x 11"), 6 mil lines and spaces, micro via, high-aspect ratio, fine pitch, 0.093" thick, dry film solder mask, impedance controlled PWBs.
  • Range of SMT components include PQFPs (fine pitch technology), PLCCs, SOPs, and discrete chips.
  • Futurebus+/Metral and HD+/Litton interconnection technologies.
EXPERIENCE
1990-present - Kai Pacific Computer Inc., Seattle, WA
Manufacturing Engineer
Review and modify design of assemblies for manufacturability. Specify the fabrication and assembly process and create assembly instructions for PWBs. Manage PWB fabrication and assembly vendors. Design tooling and fixturing required for assembly and repair of new products. Improved PWB design and manufacturability by creating design guidelines. Solved manufacturability problems of PWBs by influencing engineering to make package type, orientation and spacing modifications. Improved in-circuit/ATE testability of PWBs by reducing tooling hole tolerance and increasing test pad diameter. Managed and coordinated prototype PWB fabrication and assembly vendors to bring in eight different surface mount PWB assemblies built to an aggressive schedule. Wrote the specification for and managed the design and build of a test station for boundary scan and functional testing and de-bug of PWB assemblies. Evaluated and prepared Kai Computer's vendors in Japan for volume manufacture of new products, which entailed travel to Japan. Improved PWB assembly quality and turn-around time by influencing the vendor to add new equipment.

1986-90 - Saturn Computer Inc., Auburn, WA
Manufacturing Engineer
Purchased tooling and fixturing required for production and repair of existing products. Solved design, production and material availability problems of existing products through initiating engineering change orders (ECOs) and temporary variance authorizations (TVAs). Managed the testing and shipment of a surface mount video upgrade product. Created a surface mount PWB fabrication specification.

EDUCATION
1982-86 - University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa
