Graphic Artist/Designer Resume

A graphic artist resume is written by an artist whose job is to integrate all the graphics, typographic content, and/or animation together to make an artistic advertisement piece for a client. The graphic artist completes such tasks for magazines, newspapers, design journals, and/or posters or hoardings. The work includes coming up with illustrations depending on the client's brief and working towards incorporating artistic techniques and suitable graphics into them to make one whole creative piece. The artist must know about computer tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, PageMaker, and InDesign and QuarkXpress.

In terms of education, one can pursue graphic designing programs from recognized universities across the United States. One can also go for an associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree in arts or fine arts. All the companies with a requirement of efficient graphic artists would want to at least see a graduate degree mentioned in the applicants' resumes.

This category of work also involves the post of web designer, where the professional plans the entire layout (with text and graphics) of a website. For such a post, an applicant must be good in XML and HTML along with other programming scripts. Apart from this, there are more kinds of graphic designing jobs – product or packaging designing, material use, or object arrangement.

The job of a graphic designer includes a number of different responsibilities, including the most important one i.e., the responsibility to sell an idea. He should be extremely good in exhibiting fine marketing skills, so as to sell the designs and concept ideas to the clients or the boss. One should also be prepared to work for long hours and brainstorm over the kind of designs, ideas, concepts, and overall look of the project; it's not a 'one man' show.

To gain a clearer understanding of the entire resume format, please refer to the following resume which explains in detail how a graphic artist's resume should exactly look like in terms of structure, content, and language.

This is how a graphic artist resume is structured. Observe the language and flow of the resume sample – it is simple and mentions some of the efficient industry standard design software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. While the first two software programs are used in designing graphics, Adobe InDesign is used to structure the layout of each page of a magazine, tabloid, or newspaper. Knowledge of these software programs is necessary if one wants to join this profession. All the best!
