Dear Ms. Cook,

Jeremy Simmons, one of your painters, suggested that I contact your regarding a position for a painter that had just become available at your firm. I am therefore enclosing my resume and some photographs of my work for your review.

As my resume indicates, I have been involved in the field for over a decade. I completed a very thorough trainee program at Betty Blue House Painters and have been working with them since that time. I do straight painting and also create special effects with sponges and cloth that are consistent with the room's purpose and anticipated decor.

I have very much enjoyed my work, but believe it is time for me to branch out into doing commercial as well as residential jobs. Since I have a record of building excellent rapport with customers, I believe I would be an asset to your company on both types of jobs.
