WORK ENVIRONMENT:-

Lift engineers or technicians are responsible for servicing, installing, repairing and refurbishing the electrical, hydraulic lifts and escalators. They also toil on the vehicle mounted lifts, stair lifts, restaurant 'dumb waiters' and patients lift which are found in nursing homes and hospitals.

Your everyday duties and responsibilities as a lift engineer will include:-

  • formulating regular checks on motors, gears, overload detection device, doors, brakes and locks
  • performing negligible repairs and isolating problems until a fuller service can be made
  • act in response to emergency collapse call-outs

  • setting up and fitting out lifting gears, lifts and lift wells
  • making manifestation of new equipment to clients

  • restoring and renovating floor covering, panel display, lift interiors, contact system, push button and lighting

You can enter this career through an engineering apprenticeship. We will basically require 4 GCSEs (Grade A-C) in the subjects like English, Science, Maths, Engineering, and Design and Technology.

SALARY AND OTHER BENEFITS:-

  • Starting salaries can be between £ 15,000 and £ 20,000 a year.
  • Practiced engineers can be paid between £ 22,000 and £ 30,000.
WORKING CONDITIONS:-

You will be working for 40 hours in the week. You have to work in shifts which covers 24 hours rota and overtime is frequent.

Work condition will be based on the state of building housing the lift equipment. The job can be dirty and oily and you are probable to work in the restricted spaces, particularly on older systems. You have to make use of the vehicle for traveling from site to site.
