Interview Do’s and Don’ts

Here are some of the interview do’s and don’ts. Following these do’s and don’ts will avoid those big blunders.

Interview Do’s

  • Make sure you know where the location of interview is (exactly). If not, try to locate that place a day before.
  • Try to come little early to the interview venue. It will help you get comfortable with the environment and will put you in ease.
  • Make sure you know exactly what type of interview this is going to be.
  • Research a bit about the company before hand.
  • Dress up well. You should not feel uncomfortable or inferior to/in your surroundings.
  • Handshake with the interviewers should be firm but not very hard.
  • Make sure you listen to the question carefully. If you did not understood the question well, feel free to ask them to repeat it to you. But don’t try to answer a question till you did not understand it.
  • Try to be yourself. Don’t try to pretend.
  • Show positive attitude.
  • Try to use the term “we” more instead of “I”.
  • Make sure you ask at-least some questions to the interviewer
  • Say thank you to the interview at the end of interview and before leaving
  • Make sure to write a thank you letter to the interviewer as early as possible.

Interview Don’ts

  • Don’t talk about salary and benefits in the interview
  • Don’t say anything negative about your previous employers.
  • Don’t smoke before the interview. Some interviewers may not like it.
  • Don’t show your desperation for the job.
  • Don’t just answer the questions with yes or not. Give explanations.
  • Don’t discuss your family problems in the interview.
  • Don’t give any false statements.
  • Don’t let your mobile phone ring while in interview.
  • Don’t tell the employer that you need this job because “its close to your place”.

    FYI you may want to fix the sentense in “Interviews Do’s” that starts out saying: Make sure you listen to the question carefully…
