How to Write Nursing Resume

Medical science and health care consists of several fields, nursing is no new to the health care profession. Nursing along with other medical science and health care practitioners endow with medical aids to the acute or severe ill patients. Like any other specialized post, nursing is pivotal and necessary section of any form of medical care. It is the art and science of caring for sick people with the employment of health care. Generally a wide range of professionals, involved in medical and health care systems, work in collaboration with nurses.

It is one of the oldest professions and has wide range of employment in various sectors like Hospitals, Nursing homes, Clinics and Heath Departments, Orphanages and old age homes, Military, Schools, Industrial houses and factories, Railways and public sector medical departments, Training Institutes as educators. The format and style to write a nursing resume roughly does not vary much from other health care profession resumes. Depending on the sector and the departments, a nursing resume can be planned, organized and designed to showcase one’s experience and achievements.

The style for writing a resume may vary with various outlooks. It may vary from chronological resume writing, functional resume writing to combination resume writing. General opinions are centered on the use of objectives, summaries, profiles, title headings, reference statements, personal interests, salary history, dates, graphics, fonts, and the length of the resume. The nursing resume may contain combination of health care experience, client relationship, nursing, documentations, research, etc.

A nursing resume starts with the name of the candidate, followed by the personal details like residential address, phone numbers, e-mail. Some may include the profile for the next segment. Under this, one may state the objectives, area of interests and can depict strength in brief. He/she may write about personal qualities and may inscribe positive attitude. One must highlight his/her potential in this section. Broad medical knowledge, communication skills, problem solving, decision making, client relationships, adaptability, flexibility, and assertiveness are some basic positive attributes of any man kind, which can be put in this segment.

One of the vital parts in nursing resume is the experience segment. One may put his/her detail experience in terms of duties in hospitals, nursing homes, or in any medical departments in other sectors. One may also put details about any specific training or research, development or maintenance of community recourses.

Education segment is another important part in a nursing resume. The details about the qualification of the candidate should be written in a reverse chronological manner, with the latest data appearing first followed by the previous ones and ending with the first ones. The degree or diploma in nursing must have a special mention here. In case of continuing education or research programme, one may sum-up the education segment with the details of the research or study paper. The concluding part of a nursing resume is usually the facts and figures of the licenses, obtained by the candidate from various nursing institutes.
